A few weekends ago we camped out at Yosemite National Park. We went with our friends the Hardings and had an AMAZING time! It was so beautiful there, the weather was perfect and all the girls (as well as the adults) had a blast. If we could, we would camp so much more!!
In the tent getting ready for bed on the first night (it was soooo cold).
The drop behind the girls is not as bad as it looks.
Since Cathrynn has been super good at her nap schedule during the day, I decided that I could create a simple schedule for Olivia. I wanted to give her some quiet things to do while CC was asleep, as well as give her something to look forward to each day. Our days consist of all the regular things and I added in "School Time" "Mommy One-on-One Time" and "Quiet Time".
We have been working on doing different age appropriate school activities. Olivia seems to love school time and asks "Is it school time yet?" almost everyday. I have learned that she is much more capable than I gave her credit for.
Here are some of the things we have done.
We have been working on her letters. So far she has made it through the letter "I".
We play games to teach turn taking and good sportsmanship. She loves the memory game. Sometimes I paste letters on the front of the pictures and she has to match those up.
After using chalk for various things, we decided to "paint" with water.
We have also worked on opposites, gardening, movement, various worksheets, and many other things.
I never had a sister growing up. I'm not saying I don't love all 5 of my brothers, but they just weren't sisters. I really didn't resent that, but watching my two little girls together and trying to catch a glimpse into their future makes me so glad that I have two little girls that get to grow up with sisters.
Olivia is so gentle and loving with Cathrynn. She is the prefect oldest child. She is very mothering, protective, proud, helpful and a great example. She was the only one until recently who could really get CC laughing and for the most part still is.
CC endures Olivia's love when it become too much and also soaks it up. She is following in her big sisters footsteps.
One of both of their favorite times of day is when CC gets up from one of her naps. Olivia is given permission to go "check on her". She will climb in the crib with her and jump and bounce with Cathrynn and really gets her giggling.
I am loving being a mom to these two beautiful, amazing little girls. We feel very blessed to have their sweet spirits in our family.
We were lucky enough to be able to join an Easter Egg Hunt that our friends the Tillmans put on. We had so much fun watching all the kids enjoy the hunt. Olivia was in heaven with all the friends and all the fun. Thanks so much Tillmans for inviting us! Also, thanks to the Hardings, and Alonzos for making it even more fun!
The Gang of Kids! Poor Owen was the only boy and the youngest. He learned quick though!
The three amigos. I don't think there is a day that goes by that I don't hear Abby's name or Lyla's name. Olivia sure loves those two friends.
Later that night we hid both Olivia and Cathrynn's baskets from the Easter Bunny inside. I took Olivia in her bedroom and we soon heard some thumping noises coming from out in the hall. I quickly told her who I thought was in our home and what he was doing there. She was pretty frightened at first (duh, mom, why wouldn't she be scared? I call that a teaching moment for me.), but after discovering what was left for her she quickly decided that Easter Bunny was her friend after all. She then helped Cathrynn find her basket and sweetly helped her discover her treasures as well. She is such an amazing big sister.
The next day we spent (as well as the Monday before for FHE) a lot of time on the purpose of Easter. Olivia was very saddened by the idea of Jesus dying, but her favorite part of the story to tell was when "He lived again and came out of the cave". When we picked her up from nursery that day her leaders made sure to let me know that she knew all the answers for the lesson that day and they were very impressed.
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter. I know we sure did and felt the spirit of the Holiday very strongly.
